PUPIL SERVICES AND ATTENDANCE (PSA) COUNSELOR
Please stop by the school and say hello to our new PSA counselor, (Ms. Ardon). She is on campus three times a week (Wednesday - Friday) to help improve student attendance by working with students, parents, and teachers.
LAUSD Attendance Policy
Absence Verification
- Verification for a student’s absence must be received from a parent or guardian
- Students may not provide verification for absences
- Siblings, grandparents, cousins, other students cannot provide this information
Excused Absences
- Illness or injury
- Medical appointment
- Dental appointment
- Quarantine
- Jury Duty (student over 18 years)
- Suspension
- Exclusion by nurse
- Immunizations (excused up to five days per incident)
- Lice -should only take one day to clean but all days are excused
- Funeral of immediate family member (one day in state of California, three days out of state)
Other Excusable Absences
- Court appearance
- Religious holiday, retreat or ceremony- must obtain pre-approval from principal
- Employment conference
- When a student is the custodial parent of a child who is ill or who has a medical appointment
- Only those students who have excused absences are allowed to complete make-up and tests
Unexcused Absences
- Vacations/Trips
- Unverified illness
- Babysitting
- Care of Parent
- Running errands for family
- Runaway
- Family Emergency
- Inclement Weather
- Missed bus
